Samantha & Gabriele | Cabin Wedding | Asheville, NC
Samantha and Gabriele's story starts back in 2010, when Samantha studied abroad in Gabriele's home of Siena, Italy. After meeting through mutual friends, as Gabriele put it in his first e-mail to me, "we decided that we were better off together, even if we weren't always together physically."
After years of traveling back and forth, dealing with time zone differences and Skype connections and nearly 5000 miles between them, they decided to get married.
When their big day rolled around, it rained relentlessly. The lopsided tent in the backyard proved to be insufficient to keep guests dry and warm. They remained calm, brushed it off, and moved their 35 guest wedding inside the cabin they rented for the weekend.
A rainstorm and a dimly lit cabin usually aren’t on my list of ideal photographic conditions, but Gabriele and Samantha gave me full reign to re-arrange the ceremony layout, place them in front of windows, and drag them through soggy post-storm fields. Their joy of finally - FINALLY! - living on the same continent as husband and wife was simply radiant. Sometimes the best images come because you have amazing subjects, not perfect lighting and weather conditions.
It was a celebration that placed focus on an intimate ceremony, a beautiful meal, their closest friends and family, and a love that’s withstood years of having an ocean between them. Turns out, less is more. They stripped away excesses and what resulted was one of the most beautiful, emotional celebrations I’ve ever witnessed.
